Privacy, in plain language.
Vell turns speech into text. It is not an archive of your voice.
Recordings and transcripts
Vell records only during active dictation. The Mac deletes temporary audio after success or failure. Optional transcript history stays on your Mac. Vell Cloud processes audio for the requested transcription and does not store recording bytes or transcript content in its product database.
Provider accounts and API keys
OpenAI and Groq keys are stored in macOS Keychain and sent only to the selected provider. Local mode makes no transcription network request. Each provider’s terms apply to its processing.
Accounts and billing
Passwordless sign-in uses your email address and short-lived access codes. Device-session tokens are stored as one-way hashes by Vell and in Keychain on your Mac. Stripe processes checkout, subscription management, and payment details. Vell retains Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, status, renewal timing, and limited metering records; Vell does not receive full card numbers.
Cloudflare Email Service sends access codes, receipts-related service messages, and launch confirmations. Launch-list email addresses are used for launch and essential product updates.
Operational data
Security logs may include request IDs, coarse network information, response status, and timing. Authorization headers, API keys, audio, and transcript content are excluded from application logs.
Your choices
BYOK and local mode work without a Vell account. You can clear local history, revoke a device session by signing out, manage Stripe billing from your account, or contact privacy@vell.app.
